In the early 20th century, white fused was a powder made by reducing bauxite and carbon black at high temperatures. Although this method can produce white corundum with high hardness, its production cost is extremely high and it is difficult to be applied on a large scale. Later, alumina was used as raw material to produce white corunalumina through high-temperature equipment such as electric furnaces and electric arc furnaces. In this process, alumina is first melted and then mixed with other additives at high temperatures to form white corundum. This method of production is cheaper and can be produced on a large scale.

In the modern production process of 9 mohs hardness white fused alumina, the most commonly used method is electric arc furnace melting with alumina as raw material. In this method, alumina and auxiliary materials are added to an electric arc furnace, which is melted and mixed at high temperature until a uniform liquid phase is formed. This liquid phase is then cooled, quenched, and reheated to obtain the final white corundum product. In order to ensure product quality, the production process needs to be strictly controlled in powder preparation, sintering, water spraying, screening, cleaning and other aspects.
