99% high purity tabular alumina (also known as alpha alumina) is a high-purity sintered corundum. It does not add any additives such as magnesium oxide (MgO) or boron trioxide (B ₂ O3) during the process of complete sintering densification. This material has a sheet-like crystal structure, with small pore size and a high proportion of closed pores; Its porosity is roughly equivalent to that of fused alumina, but it also has the characteristics of high purity, excellent volume stability, and extremely low re firing shrinkage rate. In addition, plate-shaped alumina also has good thermal shock stability and bending strength, but its price is higher compared to other types of alumina.
From the perspective of material structure, 99% high purity tabular alumina is a dense, sintered and densified aggregate of alpha alumina (α - Al ₂ O3), with a grain size range of 50-400 microns. The name "tabular alumina" comes from its characteristic morphology of crystal grains in the form of slate.
